More Local Food!

I wanted to let everyone know about this amazing opportunity to get fresh local chicken from Badger’s Millside Farm.  The quality is incredible and if you have never had real chicken prepare to be blown away.  It is unlike any other chicken you have ever tasted.

It’s time to subscribe to the chicken club to guarantee you receive seasonally fresh, pasture-raised chickens that taste great.

The chickens are back in the brooder for 2013.

The 2013 club will run May through October, with the first delivery set for May 7. The other delivery dates are June 4, July 9, August 6, September 3, and October 8.

We’ve streamlined the process a bit and made a few changes. First, we’re publishing our pickup schedule and have blocked out our own on-farm processing dates to ensure we can meet our stated delivery dates.

Last year we did not adjust our prices. However, this year we had to adjust the base prices up a smidgen to combat the rising cost of feed. The cost of feed is driven by the cost of corn, petroleum, drought, speculation, and the market’s whimsy. Our base price is $3.45 a pound, which is in line with other local pastured producers.

For chicken club members, the price increase basically splits the cost of on-farm pickup and delivery from last year. However, this year, we only have one price.

In other pricing news, we will not charge club members for cut-up. That’s included in the base price.

We’re also moving to a new bag for whole birds. It’s a shrink bag, in fact. The shrink bag will hold up better in the freezer and it will create a nicer package.

Share Pricing:

  • 1 chicken per month (6 total) – $93
  • 2 chickens per month (12 total) – $185
  • 3 chickens per month (18 total) – $275
  • 4 chickens per month (24 total) – $365
  • 5 chickens per month (30 total) – $450

Ready to order?  Please visit the website.

One share equals one chicken. We’ll work up an invoice and send it back to you, and we’re more than happy to do flexible payment options. A $93 deposit will hold your shares. The remaining balance will be invoiced in two equal payments on April 15 and May 15. Payment in full can be sent at any time.

Thank you,
Mike and Christie Badger

P.S. As a thank you for your club commitment, we’ll provide a complimentary, ready-to eat rabbit when you pick up your first share.

Williamsport CSA

We are now accepting CSA members for the 2013 growing season! We have added a couple of options for next year and are offering a 5 percent discount for shares purchased by March 31.     We are also very excited to offer a flower share this year! You can get fresh flowers delivered from our farm, grown right here completely without pesticides. Its a 20 week share, so that’s 5 months worth of beautiful fresh flowers every week!

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a simple arrangement that provides an alternative to the conventional, modern relationship between farmers and their customers. The customer purchases a share of the farmer’s harvest in advance, and the harvest is distributed to the customer as it becomes available.

We are located in Nippenose Valley less than 10 miles from Williamsport.   Each week we will harvest and pack boxes and then deliver to your home or drop off at one of our two drop off points in Williamsport.   Please visit our CSA page for more information or contact us for more details.
