On the farm this week I pulled the dahlia bulbs, planted a last section of garlic with my fingers crossed and ended up chasing a lot of chickens. There is nothing that makes you feel smarter than chasing chickens. (Possibly chasing pigs?) Think you’re smarter than a chicken? So do I! Until I spend precious time trying to catch them.
In your share you will find:
- Winter Salad Mix
- Pea Shoots
- Cipollini Onions
- Misato Rose Radish
- Hakurei Turnips
So many delicious possibilities this week! The Hakurei Turnips are great salad turnips, but I rarely eat them that way as they melt when roasted and are incredible. Cipollini onions too, turn into candy when roasted. In all honesty, I can’t get enough of roasted vegetable right now. This week again, I would suggest roasting the carrots, turnips, onions and radish with garlic, sage and olive oil. Let cool and then toss in to a soup or a salad.
The cabbage makes excellent slaw or wraps.
The Misato Rose Radishes are beautiful and an unexpected delicacy in winter. Please view our recipe page for more ideas on how to use them.
Everything item in the shares, with the exception of the salad greens and micros, should store when in the bag in a drawer in the fridge. The sage will dry easily on the counter and you can use it as needed. So if you feel overwhelmed by roots, no worries, you can just stock up for the next few months.
Thank you so much and have a great week!
